The Scream - Classic Overdrive
THE SCREAM is based on the TS808 tubescreamer, an overdrive pedal so ubiquitous that there’s probably one in your grandmother’s basement. Countless derivatives have been made from this core circuitry just by changing a few components. This design allows you to re-create these sounds and find countless new ones with just the twist of a knob. Features VFE's original HCC circuitry for new shades of tonal bliss.
POWER - Accepts the industry-standard 2.1mm pin, 5.5mm barrel, negative-tip power supply from 9V up to 18V.
Controls
The top 3 controls are taken straight from the original TS808: LEVEL - controls the output of the pedal DRIVE - controls the amount of gain/drive, with a wider overall gain range and lower noise floor TONE - this active tone stage boosts/cuts frequencies above the cutoff point set by an internal trimpot The bottom 3 controls modify the original circuit: FAT - this control adjusts a resistor in the gain stage that affects the overall gain structure. Turn counterclockwise for less overall gain but a flatter bass response. Turn clockwise to increase overall gain with a sharper bass cut to keep the low end tight & punchy. FILTER - this control adjust a resistor in the post-gain stage that filters higher frequencies to smooth out the grit from the clipping ocmponents. Clockwise = brighter tone, higher cutoff frequency COMP - Variable HCC circuitry transitions smoothly between sweeter asymmetrical clipping, crunchy 5mm LEDs, and standard symmetrical clipping modes. As you turn the knob, the circuit is adjusting which clipping components are most active in the circuit AND the compression/saturation ratio is changing. INTERNAL CONTROLS - An internal trimpot controls the cutoff frequency of the TONE control, another trimpot sets the input impedance, and a third trimpot to control the brightness of the LED indicator. The DIP switch let's you change the middle position of the COMP knob to a diode lift (clean boost) instead of 5mm LEDs, or change the asymmetrical clipping between 1x2 (Boss SD-1 style) to a more asymmetrical 1x3 arrangement that adds stronger even order harmonics.
