Final VFE Overdrive
Ships in September - You will be able to choose from at least 5 colors - white, black, blue, and two colors yet to be determine.
The final VFE overdrive takes the Dragon overdrive circuit an adds a clean blend, separate slope switches, and a switch to toggle between dynamic and saturated tones. It is my definitive overdrive design after 8 other versions across 18 years (three versions of the Proto OD, three versions of the Pale Horse, and two versions of the Dragon). The final pedal name is still to be determined - please send your suggestions to sales@vfepedals.com!
The pedal prototype pictured above has several design goals.
To use the same custom-made pots as the RUP to meet minimum-order requirements. Without this design, the RUP can't happen.
To develop a new drill template using the 1590B that I can use in 2027 and beyond. The vendors I work with that can drill/paint the 1590B2 don't do 1-offs.
To design a pedal that is super easy to build. I took inspiration from the JHS NOTAKLON build to minimize the number of hand-soldered joints. I want to build & test this pedal in under 10 minutes.
To create the definitive & final version of my first custom-designed circuit - the Proto OD. This design went through many iterations - three versions of the Proto OD, three versions of the Pale Horse, and 2 versions of the Dragon. It adds extra switches and a clean blend.
Controls
GAIN - sets the amount of gain in the overdrive circuit
DRIVE - sets the volume of the overdrive circuit
CLEAN - sets the volume of the clean tone blended into the drive circuit
COMP - sets the compression ratio and clipping type (middle position = diode lift)
HPF - sets the cutoff frequency of the pre-gain high-pass filter (affects bass response)
LPF - sets the cutoff frequency of the post-gain low-pass filter (affects treble response)
6 / 12 - sets the slope of each filter, from a gentle 6 dB per octave slope to a sharper 12 dB per octave.
SAT / DYN - selects between silicon clipping diodes for more saturation & sustain and mosfet transistors for better dynamics and greater overall output
IMPED - internal trimpot that sets the input impedance of the circuit
BUFF/TRUE - internal slide switch to select between true bypass and buffered bypass switching
LED - internal trimpot to set the brightness of the on/off LED indicator light
Warranty & Returns
Try any VFE Pedal risk-free for 30 days. Return it in new condition within the first 30 days for any reason and get a full refund!
All pedals assembled by VFE Pedals have a 1-year warranty on parts & labor. I will continue to offer repair service for out-of-warranty products indefinitely, even after I close down at the end of 2026.
